my middle school students

The best middle school classes are the ones the kids tell you they are having fun. Telling me or with their laughter.

This past Wednesday I had a class at the middle school, at the end of class there was a boy (sorry, young man) that told me; “Yoga isn’t what I thought. I liked it”. And it was the best feeling. Another is when this young lady comes in, she is a regular, I love seeing her in class. She brightens my day and keeps me on my toes, and I love her for it. When my son’s friends come in it is so much fun! Knowing these guys and seeing them grow since elementary school is so great. I love all the kids that come in. Whether it be for just one class or repeat classes. They are all so special to me.

Teaching Teens is a little different than adults. I think we have a little more fun. I know it’s a lot louder than a typical class. We like to talk, and they like to ask questions. I like to tell the students they are doing a good job. Point out to each one how they are doing great. If I don’t know a kids name I always ask. This week I had them practice taking off into Kakasana (crow pose). I didn’t expect them to take off in it. But they all tried and succeeded!! It was a great feeling by all. It was great to see them all try and learned they could do it. Even if its for a moment. Falling out of a pose is just as beneficial as staying in one. At least I feel that way, how else do we learn? I love teaching, especially the middle school. I am always so honored that these teens take time to spend with me and learn to move with their breath and listen to their bodies. I hope they foster a love for Yoga as I did at a young age. Take it through life with them. Even if it’s just for a little while.

So, Thank you to ALL my Middle School Students. Y’all are such a gift showing up for class. Not just for me, But for you too! Showing up is the hardest part.
